EP3 positioner now available in ATEX-certified and corrosion-resistant versions.

EBRO ARMATUREN has expanded the application range of its EP3 electropneumatic positioner. The device is now also available in an ATEX-certified version for Equipment Categories 3G and 3D (Zones 2/22), enabling its use in potentially explosive atmospheres. In addition, the EP3 is now offered in a corrosion-resistant CS5M version.

The EP3 is designed for the control of single-acting and double-acting pneumatic EBRO actuators and is used for on/off and modulating control applications on industrial valves. Key features include automatic calibration, precise setpoint positioning, and integrated diagnostic and monitoring functions for continuous assessment of operating conditions.

With the introduction of the ATEX-certified version, EBRO extends the EP3’s range of applications to hazardous areas classified as Zones 2 and 22. This allows users to benefit from the full functionality of the positioner in explosion-protection applications. Certification for Equipment Categories 3G and 3D ensures compliance with the relevant standards and regulations for use in these hazardous environments, without compromising the proven performance and functionality of the EP3.

The CS5M version has been developed to meet the requirements of applications in close proximity to seawater as well as other highly corrosive environments. It provides a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel positioners while maintaining a high level of corrosion resistance. The switch box and pneumatic control valves are protected by specialized hard-anodizing surface treatments. These coating processes create an exceptionally durable, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant surface.

Both the ATEX-certified and CS5M versions offer the same functionality as the standard EP3 model, including automatic calibration, precise setpoint positioning, and integrated diagnostic and monitoring capabilities. All available interfaces and communication options remain fully supported. As a result, users benefit from a uniform positioner platform that can be seamlessly integrated into existing automation and plant control concepts without any functional differences.

Thanks to its standardized design, the EP3 is suitable for both new installations and the modernization of existing systems. To support engineering and project planning, EBRO provides verified EPLAN macros containing relevant technical data, helping to simplify system design and documentation.
